Country House Vintage

Just a quick post to let you all know of a fabulous fair happening this Sunday.  I am having a stall at the Country House Vintage Fair, held at Castle Hill, Filleigh, Near South Molton, EX32 0RH

The fair is on from 10am to 4pm and will feature stalls, both inside and out, from some of the best vintage dealers in the West Country.  There will be textiles, haberdashery, linens and household goods, vintage fashions, furniture, gardenalia, cushions etc  and, to top it off, a wonderful vintage tea room.  For those of you wanting something a little stronger than tea there will be a prosecco tent, run by the Calvert Trust, for whom the fair is being run and there will also be an old fashioned ice cream seller.

Lady Arran has a selection of her family's vintage dresses on display and the gardens and grounds of Castle Hill will be open to explore and enjoy.  It is going to be a great day out for the whole family, so let's hope for sunshine (or at least no rain) and the day will be perfect!

I shall be bringing a selection of my fabrics,  haberdashery, vintage clothing, quilts and blankets.  I will try and bring you a preview in the next few days.

Looking forward to seeing you there. Don't forget to come and say hello x

Sorting out

I'm not sure  why, but, for the last few weeks I have been sorting through my 'things'. I have  a lot of 'things', being the kind of hoarder/collector kind of girl that I am, and my house gets rather full and messy at times.  Every now and again I feel that the balance has tipped and the messiness has really started to get to me so a big sort out is needed!

Last Saturday, my wardrobes were the focus of my latest sort out.

It happened after ironing a pile of clothes, I realised that I could not possibly fit any more into my wardrobe.  Something had to give.  I  have a regular weed out, and charity shop purge, but things had got out of hand.

The time had come, I needed to halve my wardobe!

First stage was to  empty the entire contents of my wardrobe onto my bed

Nothing was to go back into my wardobe unless I LOVED it!

The top pile was to go, bottom pile stays.

Shoes next, eeeeeek!!!

5 Big bags are selected to be turfed out.

My beloved and much worn Converse are sorted out and stored in a drawer.

Shirts, shorts, skirts, all sorted and staying!

Dresses.  I love my dresses and now can see what I have.

My vintage dresses.  All organised and ready to wear.

It was a horrible job but I'm so glad I did it and now the excess has been sent to charity shops or  listed on ebay.

Has anyone else caught the clearout bug?

New fabrics, new fair date and a photo of me!

My blogs are bit like buses, nothing for weeks and then 2 at once!!!

Just wanted to pop back in to tell you about a few things.  First and foremost, fabrics, (what else?!).  I have been buying some beautiful fabrics lately ad some of them have made it to the website.  I was lucky enough to buy up some bolts of new old stock fabrics that have been stored away since the owner retired from his fabric shop in the 1980's.

There are some gorgeous barkcloths, cottons and a huge roll of moquette, which was the fabric used to upholster seats on trains and buses.

.

As well as these great fabrics I have found some smaller lengths of cottons and crepes suitable for dressmaking and quilting.

Lots more fabrics to come soon so do keep watching the website!

The Jubilee themed Vintage and Handmade Fair at Chipping Sodbury was wonderful, as usual, and it was lovely to see so many of you there on that sunny Saturday.

My next fair date will be a local one for me.  The Utterly Unique Vintage Fair will be held on Sunday 1st July at Castle Hill, Filleigh, near South Molton, Devon from 10am to 4pm.  A great day out for all the family with fashions and fabrics together with furniture, homewares and gardenalia as well as a display of Lady Arran's vintage wardrobe.  There will be classic cars and a glorious vintage tea room.  Do try and come if you can.

Finally, I would like to thank the lovely people at Homes and Antiques magazine for making me their VIP this month and for the lovely things they said about me. What an honour, I am truly flattered.
